DDSE refutes APPDSU allegation
ITANAGAR, Oct 24: Papum Pare DDSE, in a release, informed that the Govt. Middle School, Patila at Hollongi was provided immediate relief after the fire incident.
Refuting the allegation of All Papum Pare District Students’ Union (APPDSU) that the authority did not provide any relief to the school after the incident, Papum Pare DDSE TT Tara in a release clarified that Rs.30, 000 along with other articles, including plastic chairs were handed over to the headmaster of the school in presence of the BEO, Balijan immediately after the incident.
A detailed damaged report has also been submitted to higher authority for further action, Tara said.
He suggested APPDSU to first know the actual financial position and sanctioning power of the DDSE for renovation and maintenance of school building before going to press and media.
DDSE clarifies on ‘unfit
school uniform’
PASIGHAT, Oct 24: Reacting to a photo caption on issuance of “unfit school uniform” that appeared in this daily on October 22 issue, the East Siang DDSE has clarified that the Headmaster of Rani Secondary School did not issue the particular uniform to the student. In fact, the dress (uniform) was issued to his younger sister. The picture was taken only for ‘fun’, the DDSE claimed quoting the student as saying.

Workshop on social science begins at RGU

In this regard, the tribal study institutions have a higher responsibility of studying the present profile of tribes as they are dynamic in its methodological approach and do not draw strict disciplinary boundaries.
Prof. Tamo Mibang, Vice Chancellor, RGU also alerted on the problem of quality in academic research works. He argued that in the last decade there had been a rise in academic degrees but this has not resulted in any substantial contribution to the existing body of knowledge. He also appealed to the novice researchers to give importance to research ethics and sincerely contribute to the development of society through quality research work.
Dr Jumyir Basar, Coordinator of the workshop, while introducing the workshop, highlighted the purpose and relevance of qualitative research methods in social science, especially in the holistic understanding of society not yet quantified in their daily aspect of life. Female Sterilization Camp Held at Mechuka
AALO, Oct 24: Nineteen women were sterilized out of the 28 registered in a female sterilization camp conducted by West Siang District Health Society at CHC, Mechukha recently.
The women, who were sterilized in the camp, were provided incentives of Rs.600 each. The motivators were also given incentives.

YOMA urges Govt. to continue eviction drive
ITANAGAR, Oct 24: The Youth Organization Movement of Arunachal Pradesh (YOMA) has urged the state government not to succumb to the pressure of any organizations/unions with vested interest while carrying out eviction drive against illegal encroachers of government land in and around Capital Complex.
In a release, YOMA said that the sudden halt of eviction drive led by ADM cum CEO Talo Potom against illegal land encroachment is a ‘bad sign’. “If such trend continues, it will discourage the common mass and people will start criticizing the GoAP for maintaining double standard.”
“We appreciate the work done by the ADM and hope that the encroached public property will be recovered at the earliest to beautify the twin Capital City with proper town planning,” it added.

Arunachal seeks Centre’s support to realize ‘Youth and Sports Vision’
NEW DELHI, Oct 24: Union Minister of Defense, Sports and Youth Affairs Jitendra Singh lauded the efforts of Chief Minister Nabam Tuki for declaring the 10 percent reservation in jobs for sportspersons in the departments of Sports & Youth Affairs, Police and Environment & Forests of the State Government.
While terming the step as “exemplary” the Union Minister said that the other states should also come out to implement similar quotas for overall development of sports and sportspersons in the country.
At a high level meeting here today between the Union Minister, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki and other senior officials from the Union Ministry of Sports Affairs, the road map for integrated development of sports, particularly in the rural areas of the state was discussed in detail.
The Union Minister apprised the Chief Minister that the Ministry was committed to charting out a comprehensive plan for development of sports in the state in the current fiscal which would focus on development of sports infrastructure and facilities to promote talented sports people right from the block level.
Tuki asserted that sportspersons perform well not only in the sports arena but also have the potential to contribute significantly to every sphere of the society. He elaborated on the urgent need to create a long term eco system for talented youth, trainers and teachers so as to fully realise the objectives of youth development in the state.

ITANAGAR, Oct 24: Former Minister Indrajit Namchoom passed away at a private hospital in Kolkata today morning at 2 am following cardiac arrest.
He was 71 and is survived by two sons and daughters. He belonged to Khamti tribe and was a native of Chowkham under Lohit district.
Born in 1947 to late CK Namchoom, Indrajit Namchoom did his schooling from Don Bosco School, Guwahati and graduated from Cotton College, Guwahati.
During his school and college days, he was part of active indoor and outdoor games and excelled in football representing India in Youth Asian Soccer Tournament held at Saigon, Vietnam in 1964 besides, Santosh Trophy in 1959.
He started his career as a circle officer and retired as Secretary Legislative Assembly from 1989 to 1994.
His political innings started in 1999 when he got elected from Chowkham constituency and was appointed Chairmen of Public Accounts Committee in the Mukut Mithi ministry.
Later, he became a cabinet minister in the Gegong Apang cabinet.
All his children including his niece and present legislator from Namsai, Nang Sati Mein were present when he breathed his last.
Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma and Chief Minister Nabam Tuki have condoled the death of Namchoom. In a condolence message to Dr. Anand Namchoom, son of late Namchoom, Governor said that Arunachal has lost a pioneer in sports and dedicated social worker.

Tuki remembered late Namchoom as a stalwart and legendary footballer, first from the state of Arunachal Pradesh to represent India in an international tournament, who later joined government service as a circle officer and retired as Secretary Legislative Assembly.
“Late Namchoom will be remembered forever by the people for his contributions as an able Minister, a seasoned Legislator, a responsible bureaucrat and an all time sportsperson,” Tuki said in his message, and prayed to almighty to bestow the family members with strength to bear the loss.
“May the departed soul rest in peace in heavenly abode,” Tuki added.
Rajya Sabha member Mukut Mithi in his condolence message termed Namchoom a pathfinder of sports in the state and a person who proved his worth both as an able administrator and a leader of the masses.
“India has lost a noted sportsperson, who put this unknown North Eastern region on the global soccer map,” said Lok Sabha member Takam Sanjoy, who is also president of the Arunachal Pradesh Football Association.
“It is a sad moment for all that Namchoom is no more,” said Legislative Assembly Speaker Wanglin Lowangdong.

ITANAGAR, Oct 24: An awareness campaign and workshop on ‘Save indigenous rice varieties’ is being conducted by Thanal, a reputed NGO leading the ‘Save Our Rice campaign’ in South India, at Namsai and Roing from October 25 to 27.

The naked and shameless defection of Arunachal legislators from one party to another have always been meekly and indifferently observed by the citizens of the state as routine political affair. These acts of floor crossing by the legislators have never even been debated among the intellectuals of the state because of the attitude of indifference towards stinking political culture. However, better late than never and today the time finally seems to have arrived when the history of political defection in Arunachal’s political history will be permanently ended.
In this connection, it is for every one of us to know that the political defections
in our state have been unquestionably taking place in the name of ‘merger’. But for
the merger to be constitutionally valid under the Xth Schedule of the Indian Constitution,
the call for merger of the original political party into another party has to be
made by the President of the political party followed by the fulfillment of the criteria
of requisite minimum two-

into another party not only in one state but should mean merger of NCP units in all

And on October 13 last, body of a class VI girl was found from the nearby jungle of Nyigam village near Basar in West Siang district. She had gone missing on October 11. Authorities suspect a case of rape though it is yet to be confirmed.
Hearing for Likabali minor rape case fixed on Nov 7
The two tainted teachers of Green Valley English Medium School, Likabali, will go on trial for the infamous Likabali minor rape case on November 7 next at Fast Track Court, Aalo.
Vipin Viswan, the warden cum teacher of the school is accused of sexually assaulting as many as 14 of his minor girl students while the principal, Ranjit Kumar V K, is charged with abetting him.
Both are currently lodged at judicial lock up, Aalo.

Orientation training on vector borne diseases
ITANAGAR, Oct 24: The three days orientation cum training programme on vector borne diseases organized for the medical officers of the district by District Vector Borne Disease Control Society of Papum Pare concluded at District Surveillance Office, Yupia today.
The resource persons Dr Libe Nyorak, Dr Mope Riba and Dr PJ Sharma conducted training on various vector borne diseases, including Malaria, Dengue, Chicken gunia, Filarias and Kala Azar.
Earlier, inaugurating the training, District Medical Officer Dr S Ronya called upon the participants to take full advantage of the training to gain more ideas and knowledge on vector borne diseases to control it.

Awareness campaign by NABCONS at Abali Village

ROING, Oct 24: A district level awareness programme on schemes for development and strengthening of agriculture marketing infrastructure, grading and standardization was held at Abali Village on October 23 organized by NABCONS (NABARD Consultancy Services Pvt Ltd).
Kamal Roy, Assistant Project Manager, NABARD outlined the details of the programme by briefing the participants and the distinguished guests about the scheme.
The participants were briefed about the present agriculture marketing bottleneck which leads to wastage of food grains and horticulture products.
It was pointed out that there was ample scope for growth of both agriculture and horticulture products.
Roy stressed on post harvest management and how losses could be minimized with the help of proper grading, packaging, storage etc. The grading of produce based on color, size could fetch good price in the markets.
Due to bad storage practices, about 30% of the produce is destroyed resulting in losses to the farmers. In this context Roy cited the case of gunny bags and said that these should be replaced by plastics crates to increase the life of the products.
It was also pointed out that processing specially for products like ginger, pineapple and orange is very much required to prevent them from getting wasted due to communication and marketing bottleneck. The Central Government scheme in the present scenario can alleviate the scenario in a big way by bringing in marketing infrastructure in the state.

Through your esteemed daily we the public of Nampon/Rima Putok circle in Jairampur area, would like to draw the kind attention of GM BSNL Itanagar on the following issues –
1. IMMEDIATE RESTORATION OF BSNL NETWORK -
2. REPLACEMENT OF EXISTING OUTDATED BTS SYSTEM /INSTALLTION OF SATELLITE SET – The existing outdated BTS system of Nampong exchange is one of the oldest models of communication system. Due to technical problem it frequently breaks down. Moreover the existing battery backup does not have sufficient capacity resulting in poor network. In the last memorandum submitted on 1st October, 2012, it was demanded for replacement of outdated BTS system and battery but it was hastily restored temporarily to pacify the public outrage. Thus, we appeal the concerned authorities to phase out such outdated equipment and replace it with new one for the greater interest of general public.
We lastly on behalf of all the public of Nampong area expect a suitable action from GM BSNL for betterment and welfare of the area.

Slow process of justice encouraging crime
Dear Editor,
It seems that the people have got so acquainted with the law and order of our state that they don't feel afraid and are doing crimes every now and then. The slow process of delivering punishment might be encouraging them.
The heinous crimes like murder, kidnapping, rape and so on which we used to see/hear from other states is becoming a common crime in our state. The most heinous crime for me is rape as it becomes a bad dream which the victim have to face throughout their life. Despite passing of stringent laws passed this year by J.S Verma committee after DELHI GANG RAPE this crime is not mitigating. I think this is because of slow process of delivering punishment. I request our govt. to be very sensitive on this matter and give early punishment to the culprits so that this kind of filthy crime will not occur again and again as it is happening now.
